Client Testimonials

** Is there something you wish you had known as you began the application process that could be of help for future applicants? Admission to medical school is guaranteed for nobody! Overconfidence can be tempting for high-achieving pre-meds, this process is HARD and having a trusted advisor makes an extraordinary difference.

Any advice to others as they prepare for the MCAT?: As every physician knows, the diagnosis must come before treatment. Too many pre-meds studying for the MCAT struggle to improve because they (wrongly) diagnose their limitation as science content knowledge. The MCAT at its core is a test of scientific reasoning and weak reasoning skills, not weak science content, lie at the root of almost every single plateau I come across. Reasoning skills are improvable, but they must be the direct target of one's review, rather than an incidental focus.

Overall Comments: Sylvia's guidance and advice were invaluable to me - as an applicant with a very unusual international background. Without her, I am extremely confident that I would not have gotten into any medical school, much less one of the most prestigious medical schools in the country. Sylvia's "secret sauce" lies in her ability to combine her decades of experience in medical admissions with a deep personal commitment to her client's success. My sessions with Sylvia were informative, insightful, and a genuine pleasure; I literally cannot recommend her more highly. Sylvia, please know that I will always attribute a substantial portion of the credit for my career as a physician to you - thank you for everything.

** Is there something you wish you had known as you began the application process that could be of help for future applicants?: I wish I knew how long it would be, how complicated it was, and how important it is to WRITE SECONDARIES EARLY! I'm so glad I did that last one, thanks to Ms. Robertson's advice.

Any advice to others as they prepare for the MCAT?: Don't study with a "I'll just reschedule" mindset- set a deadline and stick to it; don't be afraid to take practice tests out of fear that you're going to get a lot wrong- you're only hurting yourself in the long run. And do lots of practice questions. It's the best way to learn.

Overall Comments: I am so, so, so incredibly grateful that I had Ms. Robertson to help guide me through this process. I can't even begin to express how lucky I was to find her. The process of applying to medical school is so long, arduous, and complicated. I've always been a really strong student- GPA, MCAT, research, extracurriculars, and letters of recommendation were never my problem- but even the best of students need help putting all of that together and finding a way to navigate this process. Ms. Robertson was a like a shining lighthouse guiding me through the night for the entire duration that I worked with her. She always responded to my frantic emails and/or calls in a timely manner, reassured me on what mattered and what didn't matter, and gave the wisest advice. She helped me evaluate my strengths and weaknesses and was always honest with me in evaluating my application. With Ms. Robertson's guidance, on my first and only cycle, I got 12 interviews (including one to a top 10 program), multiple acceptances, and will be attending a top 20 school in the fall. I couldn't be more excited. Thank you so much; I would recommend Ms. Robertson to anyone applying to medical school. She truly is such a gift!

**I truly do not know if I would have been able to make medical school without Ms. Robertson's guidance, as my school has little to no premedical advising. Ms. Robertson's continuous advice, support, and guidance these past 2 years are a major reason why I have been successful, transforming me from a lost premed to a competitive applicant that was able to get into my dream school. I am very grateful for her kindness and availability for whenever I had a question. Ms. Robertson walked me through every step of this long journey, providing comforting yet honest feedback, and no words can describe how thankful I am. Throughout the whole process, from getting involved in various activities to interview preparation, I truly felt she was on my side and she truly cared for how I was doing and helping me reach my goal, which can be rare in this day and age. She is truly the best! I recommend her without any hesitation!

**Sylvia helped me so much with her guidance. I think she was a huge part in my success during the application process and I am very grateful for her. Not only did she help me with the application but she also helped me in choosing which school to attend and I have not been disappointed yet. I would recommend that applicants start meeting with her early and that way she can maximally help you.

**Thank you again for your help in getting me to this pivotal moment in my career and life. Your advice and support allowed me to soar above barriers that I stumbled across two years ago. I am looking forward to seeing how the rest of the application season will shape up and I am grateful you will be there to help me make my final decisions in where I spend the next four years of my life.

**My son received his White Coat this past Monday and needless to say he was thrilled. We were so proud and finally felt we could exhale. I cannot thank you enough for your help with his application process. Sometimes in life you get lucky with the right person at the right time and you were absolutely one for my family. Your caring, calming ways were just as needed as your knowledge and experience. It made all the difference in his acceptances.

**Sylvia has been instrumental in guiding me through every step of this application process. From completing my personal statement, advising me on where to apply, helping with secondaries, prepping me for interviews, and helping me make a decision, Sylvia has given me exceptional advice. Unlike most advisors I have previously worked with, Sylvia took the time to get to know what was truly important to me and helped me focus on that when making my decision. She was a calming force and a support system during an extremely stressful time, and I know that this application process wouldn't have been the same without her.

**Applying to medical school is a long and challenging process, but Sylvia's wise advice, candid feedback, and kind support made it far less daunting. She was always available via email, and it was easy to schedule appointments with her to discuss my questions. I am particularly grateful for the mock interviews we practiced together, which greatly increased my preparation and confidence on interview day. Throughout the process, my meetings with Sylvia helped reduce my stress and made me feel supported. I would 100% recommend Sylvia to everyone looking for guidance in pursuing a career in medicine. Thank you, Sylvia!

**Sylvia was a vital part of my medical school application process. No matter the day, she always made herself available to answer questions and help guide me. The experience and expertise she brings to the table as a former Assistant Dean for Admissions and current Premed Adviser helped me navigate the entire application process, from writing my personal statement to preparing for successful interviews. Without Sylvia's help I am not sure I would be able to say that I am going to be a doctor!

**What stood out to me about working with Sylvia was the degree to which I felt she was truly and personally invested in my success. Not only is she tremendously knowledgable, but she is also incredibly approachable and warm, and I always felt comfortable reaching out about any of the small questions that came up while navigating this often confusing process. I was abroad during the application cycle and the time difference sometimes made it difficult to schedule meetings in the time windows she usually offers- Sylvia went out of her way to accommodate me, and helped me to manage the unique challenges that arose from being out of the country while applying. She was very easy to work with, turning around essay edits and answers to questions very quickly, and posting notices weeks in advance for the couple days when she couldn't take meetings (while at conferences, etc., and even then she was accessible by email) In Sylvia, I got not just an advisor but also a supporter and genuine well-wisher who was a constant source of encouragement. I would recommend her unreservedly to anyone applying to medical school. Thank you so, so much, Sylvia!

**Writing has never been a friend and having to apply a second time meant starting the process all over again. However, thanks to Sylvia, I actually began to look forward to her comments and detailed notes. Not only did she improve my writing, but she also helped organize my thoughts about my future in medicine.

**Thank you for being a wonderful guide and advisor to me!

**I really appreciated Sylvia's advice, especially when it came to writing personal statements and secondaries and preparing for interviews. I think she provided the critical eye that I needed to nail out the kinks in my application - by the end of this whole process, I felt as if my application was much stronger and truly showcased my strengths. I received constructive criticism when I needed it and got credit where it was due, and I attribute much of my success this application cycle to the help I received.

**Sylvia was a very crucial piece of the medical school application process for me. At first, I was a bit skeptical of asking for help with it, because I tend to want to do things on my own. Sylvia quickly changed my mind as soon as we starting working together. She provided support and worked with me as if we were on a team, but at the same time she was able to look over everything objectively and tell me exactly where I needed to improve and how to do so. She instilled a trust in me that was absolutely necessary to do our best, and a trust that really made the whole process much more breathable for me. Sylvia was more than just a coach for the time being though, because she truly made me improve my ability to express what I wanted to express, both in writing and in interview settings, which is a skill that is necessary not just now, but throughout one's whole medical career. I truly cannot say enough about Sylvia, as both an adviser and a person. I would recommend Sylvia to anyone applying to medical school, even if you may not think you need it.

**Sylvia Robertson was hugely helpful to me during a very stressful time. I encountered an urgent issue in my application process that required expert help and Sylvia provided just that in the most sensitive and professional manner. She made me feel as though my problems were her problems and she was truly invested in my success. This is certainly not a given for a pre-med consultant. She worked overtime for me and then refused to charge me simply out of the kindness of her heart because she felt sorry for my stressful predicament. My family and I were both moved by her generosity, thoughtfulness and the level to which she takes her role seriously as somebody that helps pre-med students realize their dreams.
While I am still in the midst of the application cycle and don't know my outcome, I know that if/when I receive my first acceptance I will think of Sylvia as a crucial player in the process that helped me during a hard time. I would recommend her services to anyone that wants true expertise and thoughtful consulting. She legitimately cares about her clients' success and invests herself fully in them. She approaches each situation uniquely and applies her extensive knowledge in a thoughtful, patient and individualized manner. I am honestly wow-ed!

**Sylvia has been extremely helpful and supportive throughout my application cycle. I have been accepted to a couple schools, and was pulled off the waitlist last second at my dream school. I cannot imagine going through this year without her guidance.
My application had a very glaring red flag, which kept me reasonably anxious on my standing with the schools I applied to. In my meetings with Sylvia, she would do three things. First, she would ask me questions, very probing questions, on my situation and my application. This helped me make sure I knew my application inside and out, and even more importantly, made me reflect on the situations that resulted in the red flag on my application.
Once I was able to articulate my thoughts well, she did the second thing, which is to help me with my delivery. During mock interviews, she would catch certain phrases that may be misinterpreted negatively and advised me to change them accordingly. Essentially, she helped me present myself as the best applicant I can be, conveying messages the way I wanted them to.
Finally, she would lay out my options and possible results with me. She would state the potential outcomes of certain actions, making sure I do not veer too much off reality. When I was waitlisted at my school of choice, Sylvia advised me to write a letter of intent to update the school on my stance (and helped with the editing as well), but also reminded me that I should keep in check with the dates to make sure I set my plans with my alternative school for the time being.
Sylvia helped me gain confidence in expressing my thoughts on my application and perfected my delivery in doing so. She also constantly kept checking in with me and had a clear vested interest in my success. It's like having a telescope that can help you look further ahead to more accurately determine your path. Her expertise in the field is apparent - her predictability of my success and her personalized strategies for me were invaluable. I write this review in the hope that more people will have the confidence to consult Sylvia on any premedical related questions they may have.

**I just got a call from Yale and have been offered a spot in their incoming class! They've been my top choice from the start so I'm definitely matriculating there in the fall. Thank you SO much for all the guidance you've given me over the past few months. It was incredibly helpful to get your thoughts on what the weaknesses in my application were so I could address them in update letters. This would not have been possible without you. I am very excited to start medical school in the fall, and I cannot thank you enough!

**What can I say about Sylvia? Too much. There are not enough words to describe the guidance and support I received from Sylvia throughout the application process. I actually connected with Sylvia after I submitted my application in June of 2015. About halfway through the application process, I started to prepare for potentially applying to 1-year Masters programs. Sylvia was extremely honest about next steps in the application process, but in a way that made me think introspectively about continuing on the path to medical school. Sylvia worked with me to outline alternative options while encouraging realistic expectations and goals with my current application. Sylvia gave me hope for the future when I felt frustrated and disappointed. After receiving a last-minute interview, Sylvia helped me prep the day before (on extremely short notice). I ended up gaining admission to a wonderful medical school that I'm so excited to attend. Sylvia was undoubtedly the light through the storm at times and I truly appreciated all of her input in this crazy application process. Thank you so Sylvia!!

**You have made my future in medicine possible, and have given me the greatest gift of all- confidence in myself!!! Thank you for being my cheerleader in this difficult process!

**Sylvia is the best! She made herself very available to help me and to answer all my questions. She would come to every meeting prepared to answer any of the questions I had and provided efficient ample support throughout the application process. Sylvia was very approachable. I felt that I could go to her with any concern I had which is exactly what makes a great advisor. I wouldn't have been able to succeed without her and I am definitely spreading word of her advising services throughout the premedical community!!
